At Somethumb, we work with many exceptional clients, spanning over 20 different industries in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. We believe that all of our clients have a story to tell and we love helping them utilize their websites to not only tell these stories, but make a personal connection with their unique visitors, as well.

Recently, my wife and I were invited to attend an intimate fundraiser for our client, Gable Heart Beats (GHB) Foundation. GHB is an organization dedicated to raising awareness to Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Cardiomyopathy, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and other forms of heart disease. Michelle Gable founded GHB after her husband, Michael Gable, died unexpectedly from HCM at the young age of 38. In Michael’s memory, Gable Heart Beats Foundation is dedicated to help prevent similar tragedies through proper testing and diagnoses and by supporting families suffering from the effects of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

The event, a 2nd Annual Heart Month Wine Event, was coordinated by Amy Mayo, GHB’s Executive Director, and hosted by Michelle Gable at her lovely home. It was a wonderful evening that touched all the senses with delectable food, beautiful surroundings and poignant first-hand stories from patients affected by HCM and other life threatening heart diseases.

A very unexpected highlight of the evening was the overwhelming appreciation I received for Somethumb’s work on their website. It’s not often that tech guys get to feel like a rock star, but that night was different. I expected to spend my evening praising the organization for their important work in heart disease detection and thanking them for letting Somethumb to be a part of it. Instead, I spent my night being praised for the new website’s intuitive design, ease of use and fresh look. Attendees went out of their way to shake “the web guy’s” hand and thank me for helping them deliver their message to the world. I was also told the new website helped GHB surpass their previous donation goals, a measurable result that no one expected.

A wine-filled event, attendees were welcomed to choose a commemorative wine glass to remember the evening. Each wine glass had individual tags on them with one, simple word. I chose “music.” I chose the word music because it plays an important role in my life and was happy to learn what an important role it played in Michael Gable’s life, as well. The GHB Foundation has been lucky to receive ample support from the music industry. Michael’s former band, Segue, donates all sales from their album, One Race Human, to GHB Foundation. Even better, such well-known artists as Grammy winners Roberta Flack and Macklemore wear the Gable Heart Beats custom dog tag necklace to raise awareness and as a symbol of their support.

As is the case with most charity events, I left that evening feeling good. I was feeling inspired by the dedicated people around me and their daunting, yet critical mission. I felt good about GHB’s work in our communities and good about the small role that Somethumb plays in the organization. Though, sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the biggest difference.
